Busy three day weekend!

Got quite a bit done in the shop yesterday. I installed a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel tank straps into the Cavalier. She fired right up. Then I turned my attention to the crappy head unit they had installed, using the term installed loosely. It was in the dash, but not hooked up. The reason it wasn’t hooked up was because instead of using the correct factory plug-n-play adapter, they chopped off the harness. Frustrating! After patching the wires properly and installing the new head unit (just a Kenwood KDC-248U), I HAVE MUSIC!  Now I need to upgrade the 4×6’s in the doors and the 6×9’s in the rear deck. Read more

What is it with this build and fuel pumps?

Arrived at the shop to find a pool of gas under the rear of the truck. Seems the Edelbrock Quiet-flow pump was leaking at the spring plug (replaced the rubber O-ring with a Viton O-ring), and at the inlet fitting. Would explain why the fuel cell was empty when I rolled it out yesterday. After filling the cell with a few gallons of gas, and letting it sit for several hours over a piece of paper, no signs of leakage were found.

Keeping my cool

After discovering a leak in the stock radiator this weekend, I bit the bullet and bought a new one. It’s now installed and the engine is filled and no leaks! Still need to find a belt for the PS pump and water pump so I can run it up to temp and fill the transmission and check for leaks. Read more
