The Cavalier is back on the road

After realizing the spare engine I had was in fact a 95′, not a 96′ (which meant I couldn’t use it as there was no cam sensor provision as 95′ was batch fire, and 96′ was sequential). This left me with the option of removing the engine and swapping a crank kit in to it, assuming the rods were still okay, and there wasn’t shavings in the pan. There was another option, one I don’t normally consider, but A.) being short on funds at the moment and B.) Not wanting to spend money that could be used on the truck, on this beater. Now to get the old one out

Got the replacement engine ready to be swapped in. Installed a new timing set, with tensioner, new water pump, cleaned all gasket surfaces and swapped over a few items. Tomorrow I will lay into the car and try to get the engine completely out. So Friday I can make it a all night threash and have the engine back in and done on Saturday as I have other work lined up in the shop and I would much rather be working on my Dakota! Read more

It’s always something

So the oil pump went out in my Cavalier.. I’ve already yanked the spare engine out of the parts car, have it tore down, and almost ready to toss new parts on, and swap the new head over. New timing set, new water pump, are also going in while it’s out. Hope to have it done on Saturday, if not before. Damnit.

Quick Walk around videos

Quick little video, just finished setting the timing and tuning the carb, hence the quick throttle. That was with the vacuum advance unhooked also. The new plugs and better MSD wires also made a difference, and the new wire looms will prevent anymore burned wires. Now to replace the junk one wire alternator, bleed the brakes, and swap in the right fuel cell sending unit.
