While the C8 isn’t due until the end of the decade, a car riding on its platform may appear much sooner than that. No, we’re not talking about the new sports car recently hinted at by Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, although it is a distinct possibility Cadillac may eventually launch a car based on the new mid-engine platform. No, we’re talking about a new generation of the Corvette ZR1, which Car and Driver reports may be launched as early as the 2017 model year and sport a price tag of around $150,000. Read more

DSCN2904 From Bangshift.com When Larry Larson and I decided we were going after a 6th Hot Rod Drag Week Title for him in 2014, we also wanted to be the quickest and fastest street car in history. And while Andy Frost’s 6.4 second record was impressive, our goal all along was to run 5.9 seconds. In order to do that, we needed light weight and big power. Here is an overview of how we got the power. At PRI, Larry and I talked to the guys at Brodix about a 5.0 bore space PB5000 combination, and started initial discussions about the build with Larson’s long time engine builder Mike Moran. Moran clearly knows how to build power, but later conversations, sponsor support, and several weekends at Pro Mod races got us talking to Eric Dillard and Steve Petty at ProLine Racing Engines. Once they heard our plans, ProLine jumped at the chance to be a part of this adventure and the ball was officially rolling. Read more

SRT Engineer Explains How Hellcat Hemi Pulls 707 Horsepower

hellcat12a Development of the new Dodge 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat Hemi engine focused on two parallel objectives: make more than 700 horsepower, and make it live. To achieve the former, a 2.4-liter twin-screw supercharger provides nearly 12 pounds of boost to produce 707 horsepower with 650 lb-ft peak torque. To ensure the latter, Chrysler powertrain engineers strengthened nearly every component in the engine. To validate those changes, the team built an entirely new dyno cell for testing, because none of the existing lab facilities were capable of handling that much power. Read more
